Philip Humphries-Cuff – Chair of Governors & Safeguarding Governor

Philip studied Chemistry at Bath University and then undertook 3 years research in the mining industry, before joining an international scientific equipment company. In the early 1990’s he was a founder and Director of a leading digital marketing agency specialising in IT, Pharmaceutical and Healthcare sectors and merged it with a US advertising agency.

Philip and his family moved from London to the Pewsey Vale and his two children attended St Francis and Marlborough College. In 2001 he started a marketing consultancy based in Winchester and in recent years has taken on executive and advisory roles in a variety of technology and medical companies. Philip is a Trustee of UK brain cancer charity Brainstrust, has travelled widely throughout Africa, is a keen fly fisherman and vegetable grower.

Richard Oliver OBE – Treasurer

Richard joined the Board in December 2019 and is the Chair of the Finance Committee. He is Chairman of a UK-based FinTech company and a director of diverse investment and other companies mainly in the UK and in the United Arab Emirates. He was Regional CEO for the Middle East and Africa for National Bank of Abu Dhabi for a number of years, prior to which he was at HSBC for more than thirty years. There he held a variety of board positions for various affiliates and subsidiaries. He is a Masters graduate of Oxford University in PPE and holds a Finance MBA from City University. He was made an OBE by HRM the Queen in the New Year’s Honours List in 2019 for services to business and to the community in the UAE. Married since 1991, Richard and his wife Jenny have four children. Joseph Oliver attended St Francis for several years and has many happy memories. He is now at Marlborough College. Richard’s main interests outside family and work are history, sport and economics.

Christopher Bromfield

Christopher Bromfield studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University and then qualified as a solicitor.  He spent the next ten years working in the City of London and in New York before moving to Wiltshire where he was a Partner in Wansbroughs in Devizes for more than twenty five years until his retirement in 2015. He practised largely in commercial law with a particular interest in advising schools and charities.

Christopher was for many years a Trustee of the Allergy and Asthma Trust, the British Society of Gastroenterology, The Pony Club (where he was also Chairman for three years) and the Wiltshire Community Foundation.  Currently he is Under Sheriff of Wiltshire and a Governor of Lambrook School near Ascot.  He has three children and seven grandchildren.

Dr Richard Hook

Richard qualified at St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School in London and undertook GP training in North Yorkshire, working in hospital posts in Northallerton and Darlington and general practices in Masham and Stokesley. He moved to Wiltshire to take up the offer of a partnership in Marlborough Medical Practice in late 1999. The Practice has long provided the Medical Officer for Marlborough College, and Richard took over that role in 2003. Apart from providing primary care to the pupils, he is closely involved in the provision of their pastoral care as well as health education. He is married to Liz and has two children (Alice and Matthew) who have both gone through St Francis and on to Marlborough College.

Ben Miller

After a BSc. Single Honours Degree in Geography from The University of Birmingham, Ben continued to study at the University, completing a PGCE in Geography with English in 1995. Ben then taught at Clifton College, Bristol and then King’s College Auckland and Christ’s College Canterbury before returning to the UK and taking up a post at Marlborough College. Ben has been a Housemaster in C1 House for ten years. He is married to Katie and they have three children. William is currently at St Francis, and their eldest daughters Olivia and Florence have moved up from St Francis to senior school.
